Monterosso.

A nice park to sit in.

Boardwalk
Matt and Bree

Another day another village. Decided on a visit to Monterosso this morning. Packed and out the door by 11am. We never check the train schedule so we arrived about 35 minutes early. We started chatting with a nice young couple from Minnesota, Matt and Bree had just been married last Friday and were on their honeymoon. We swapped information about different things we’d done and things we’d seen and then hopped on the train when it arrived. They were heading to Vernazza so we bid them arrivederci and safe travels. Took us all of 20 minutes to get to Monterosso and man was that worth a 20 minute ride! Monterosso is one of the bigger villages in the 5terre and the furthest north. It is located right on the sea and is beautiful. We wandered the streets for awhile and decided to find something to eat...no sweat there are about 100 restaurants within a very small area.
For Lunch we have choosen Cantina di Miky...not only for the look of their menu but also because of their location outside and right by the boardwalk. A nice girl named Silvia was our waitress and she proved to be a fireball. Nanc really wanted to try the Bruscetta and I of course wanted more pesto. We shared a salad and ordered Bruschetta with tomato and arugula and an order of lasagna with pesto. God I love this pesto! The bruschetta was much better than any we’d ever had and we left lunch pleased, full and happy.
Monterosso Beach

Monterosso is a very charming little place so we decided to just stroll around, sit and relax and then stroll some more. We did some great people watching and had a nice quiet day. The pull of Gelato overtook us and we went and shared a double (this stuff is addicting). Headed back to the train stazione about 3pm and waited about 45 minutes for the train. We met a couple of guys who work for a language school north of Milan, one of them was Aussie and the other English. They were

escorting (along with more adults) what looked like 30 middle schoolers. Really interesting guys who now call Italy their home.
Train finally arrived and we headed back to our home in Corniglia, the 382 steps were there waiting for us.  Ok, something is definitely happening...after the climb we looked at each other and said, “that wasn’t so bad”. Maybe we are getting our mountain legs! With NZ coming up we’d better.
Quiet night at our flat...a little reading, maybe some BBC news later and then the end of another day.
