Capitol Hill and the Library of Congress

Not a long blog today because *I have to get packed and ready to fly to Italy*,not that I'm excited. We had a great morning here. Walked up to the Capitol and signed up for a tour. This is not like the White House, all you have to do is go through some "airport like" screening and they let you in. The tour starts off with an awesome film, really great footage from around the country explaining the concept of, "From many, one".
We should make every senator and congressman see this 20 minute film, it really lays out the necessity for compromise (about as well as it can be explained). The film highlights the different areas, lifestyles and people that make up our country, and outlines the passions that different groups have for differing ideas and issues. The narration makes it clear that this is what has made us great, this ability to compromise, in the face of such great differences.
Later in the day we went over to the Library of Congress where the exhibition, "Creating The United States" is displayed. Fascinating stuff. We seem deadlocked in Congress these days, absolutely no room for compromise or even civility most days. But think back to the beginning of our country, those men had no working model to go by, they had only their common sense and desiring to be free men. Somehow, out of all their differences, they were able to write a Constitution and a Bill of Rights. We need new leaders, these men have failed leading us and show no desire to right their path. All of us need to demand more from our leaders...and while we are at it why not get the best and brightest working for us.

Library of Congress

Beautiful building.

The Great Hall
The Library of Congress is without a doubt the most beautiful building I've ever been in. First words from both of us were "OH MY GOD". WOW!
