A short drive takes us to Wai-O-Tapu thermal resort and mud pools, these pools are bubbly, muddy and smelly, most excellent...next up is the Lady Knox Geyser...this is only the 2nd Geyser I’ve ever seen, Old Faithful in Yellowstone being the other...a very informed ranger came out and gave us a short talk on geyser’s and then he stepped back and BAM...the earth blew it’s cork. Very cool! Stop at Haku Falls and Nanc and I walk the river trail into Taupo, Deb decides the bike ride is for her... about 30 minutes into our walk here comes Deb pushing her bike, she has had a terrible fall and screwed up her bad knee...ouch...I decide to ride the bike into camp and after a couple minutes riding I notice the handle bars shift both directions, up and down and side to side...very unsafe...no wonder she crashed. This is the 2nd piece of crap bike in 2 days and now Deb is gonna fight this bad knee even more...tomorrow is The Tangoriro Crossing and she would be hard pressed to make it up and over...when we got back to camp we reported what had happened and Holly just sort of laughed it off and in fact seemed more concerned about the bike than Deb. I do know I’m not getting on one of those crap bikes...Nance and I asked for a refund because, 1st they were oversold on them, and now we see the quality is very poor...very disappointing because we had really thought we’d ride a lot. Tongariro Mountain is in our sites and we camp at Turangi tonight. Deb does not look good. Nanc and Deb decide on not doing the crossing tomorrow...I will do it alone.
