Toihoukura Maori Art School and Gallery

One of the cool things about staying with locals is you get to do really unusual things. David and Suz's daughter-in-law Erin attends an Art School, Suz arranged a tour for us in this afternoon. We met Erin and all 3 of her adorable children at the front door. Toihoukura is a Maori Art School with an attached Gallery...the art is interesting and unique...wananga and whanau methods of learning are employed...not sure what it means, but the style includes learning to communicate in te reo Maori, reciting of moteatea and understanding the oral history of the people. They want their graduates to be effective in artistic and cultural activities at a professional and grass roots level.

if you'd like to see more, or have an interest in any of these pieces, you can go to www.eit.ac.nz What I've shown here is just a sampling, there were so many fine pieces...take a look.
