Wilson's Promontory

12/22
The trails provide wonderful glimpses of the sea, bays and beaches.

Lots of large boulders on the beaches.

Evidence of the brush fire from 2009.

Squeaky beach

So many colors.

Whiskey Bay

Nice day for a hike.

Clouds stayed there all day.

Along Tidal River

Bridge over Tidal River

Just hangin around.
The Wilson Promontory is a National Park that encompasses the southern most point of the Australian Mainland (remember Tasmania)...a park of beaches, sand and hiking trails with views and pictureque spots in every direction...The Park is huge. In 2004 and again in 2009 they had brush fires that are still evident, then in March of 2011 a flood closed large portions of the park and changed some of the landscape. We visited Picnic Bay, Squeaky Beach, Tidal River (where it runs into the sea) and Norman Bay South...we walked the trails and sat on the beaches. If you'd really like to see this area it would take at least a week or two and the only facilities are a camp ground and about 12 bungalows you can rent. The place is empty...no crowds, great surf and wide wide beaches...an ideal place for a family camp out or vacation. My favorite spot was Squeaky Beach...large boulders on the beach, good wave crest and white sand...no shade so bring a tent. I got some awesome pictures...enjoy.
