Kuranda Station

Kuranda Station
Our 2nd day in Cairns...the historic train up to Kuranda Station was slow and hot, some of the switch backs are so severe I think I could have walked faster than the train was moving. It was a 1 hour and 15 minute trip on tracks built thru the mountains and includes 15 tunnels cut thru the rock with picks and shovels. The day was very hot and very little breeze entered the train car...arriving in Kuranda is pretty cool...the train station and skyrail are located together with a footpath heading into town...very nice little station but very touristy...this place has everything a tourist wants or needs including a Venom Zoo...we saw the sign but didn’t go in...we had some lunch, bought a couple tshirts and then headed to the Skyrail for our gondola ride over the canopy of the rainforest...the ride takes about 40 minutes and your allowed to step off twice, once to view the falls and the 2nd time to take a nature walk thru the rainforest...this was definitely the best part of the day...the views we had were spectacular.
Love this facade

Historic Train to Kuranda Station.

Twisty, turny and very very slow...hot, humid ride...where's the breeze!

Barron Falls were cool.

Kuranda station...art work everywhere.

Many sites of the falls along the route.

Ok is this Italy?

Great old bridge...the train almost bends back on itself.

Kaola Gardens...

They even offer classes!

What...in Kuranda?

Aboriginal tribes have been here for 40,000 years, they reckon!

Talk about aboriginal...I mean abnormal...

On the way down the Skyrail you stop and take this walk.

These guys are deemed a little dangerous and don't usually come into the station.

Pictureque old Station.
