Bonorong, aboriginal for "Native Companion" is the only animal sanctuary in Tasmania...we drove out of the city about 30km because we wanted an up close experience with the animals...we like zoo's but seeing the animals at such a distance and reading a small blurb about them is not what we were looking for...This place was a perfect fit for us...we got out to the sanctuary about 1:30 and waited until 2 for the feeding tour to start...our guide was a young guy named Paul who really enjoyed telling us about these creatures he loves...it showed in how he spoke to us about them and the amount of info he dished out...you can always tell if it's just a job or if it's someone's passion. Anyway, for an afternoon we found ourselves woven into the lives of Wombats, Kangaroos, Koalas and Tasmanian Devils...what fun. Nancy even got to touch a Koala...a high point for her on the trip.
